Renovation
August 16th, 2009What a push! Carey & Tony were home from Germany for a few weeks and we tried to get a big stucco project completed…we’ve been putting it off for years! It involved removing all of the 4″ bats off the dormers and structure above the logs, then installing foam and chicken wire to prep for the stucco.
Windows -
But that’s not all, we also installed 3 new windows–two in the east bedroom and another in the pitch of the east end. The windows turned out well but added a lot of extra work because it meant not only removing the 4″ bats, but also a layer of 1×12s, the 1″ foam insulation, and 3/8″ plywood, before we could get to the framing. So we survived that and after exchanging the vertical sliding window for a horizontal one, we finally had it buttoned back up and ready for stucco!
Chimney -
They also covered the Chimney with cultured stone rather than stucco. Mr Diaz & crew did a great job!
New Doors -
So we had plenty on our plate but the quest for windows also turned up a load of beautiful knotty pine doors at Habitat for Humanity. They were not quite the right size, but at $65 a door we thought we’d give it a shot–oh, and $33 for new handles! A little trimming, a little routing and a little glueing & screwing, and next thing you know we have replaced all six hollow-core doors with solid pine. Thanks to Mr Kent for great hints and tips and near Divine patience!
Lighting -
Finally, new porch lights for the MBR balcony–also great HFH finds–and one for the west end and we’re done for another season. Thanks to Mom & Dad for finishing up the trim, etc., because C&T bugged out of the country before it was all done. Nice!! We wanted so badly to see it done but have to settle for picture for now.
Keyless entry -
Last little project was to equip front door with a door handle that can be opened with a code rather than a key. Just makes the handling of keys simpler and more secure as we can change the code at any time.
So, “That’s how I spent my Summer Vacation!” (Truthfully, we did manage to sneak a little hiking and fishing in and Mom fed us like we weren’t going to eat for another 6 months) Please let us know what you think and what project should be next.
Cheers! Tony Seely
What’s Happening?
February 19th, 2007The weather has been strange but the Valley is still white. The base is more than adequate for snowmobiling and the snowmobile club has been doing a great job keeping the Buford-Newcastle road conditioned for easy riding. Please let us know what you’re seeing out on the trails!
Cheers, Tony
